West Nile – Community Action for Rural Development (WN-CARD) provides services across to Vulnerable individuals, families and their communities. Key to its service delivery is taking services as close as possible to those who need them.

MALARIA REDUCTION AND PREVENTION

Malaria is one of the deadly killer diseases with high rate in West Nile region in Uganda, As Organization we have led support in the distribution of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs)– through mass distribution campaigns in the communities. Through integrated community case management (iCCM) and social and behaviour change (SBC), we provide evidence to scale up innovative approaches to target malaria and other childhood diseases. Our implementation activities are to supports strengthening of Community Referrals systems, Community Dialogues with the stakeholders, Performance review with the VHTs and the District Health departments, among which some activities include: –

Capacity strengthening of community structures. WN-CARD with the support, will train village health teams and train health workers and to test for malaria and use available health tools., other local structures such as Local Councils capacity will be strengthened. The local community structures will be trained on integrated malaria

Social Community Behavior Change.  Use of IEC materials and other communication materials are key to pass information on malaria prevention. With help of Ministry of Health and District Health Office, we shall distribute IEC materials to households and families and been educated on how to prevent malaria

Community mobilization and sensitization campaign. This strategy is aimed at bringing together local communities and educate them on Malaria Prevention strategies. Direct and indirect beneficiaries such as parents of children under 5 years, pregnant mothers, older persons, people with disabilities, local leaders, Village Health Teams, Health Educators/Assistants, and health workers will be mobilized and sensitized on integrated malaria prevention strategies and management

Home -to- Home and village -to- village malaria campaign. home-to-home malaria campaign at household level with Village Health Team members, health facility staff, and district health officials is one of innovation to use in this project. This will enable us to reach the rural communities, families and villages and increase our advocacy campaign on Malaria Prevention.
